                      An Introduction
                   To
                     Our Breeding Practices

We are German Shepherd Dog people.  We live, work and breath this outstanding breed.  We work hard to improve the excellent qualities that are so well known in this breed.  We are firm believers in the TOTAL German Shepherd Dog.  Our breeding program consists of  our family dogs, who prove themselves on the working, service and show arenas time and time again.

Because we do not breed our dogs as business, our income does not depend on the sale of our puppies.  We believe that if people mass produce dogs as a business, they cannot get to true feeling of loyalty, companionship and love from their canine partners.  Our dogs are first and foremost, loved family companions,  highly rated working and show dogs, and world class examples of the correct overall German Shepherd Dog.
Our Breeding Philosophies
We only breed only for top quality, world-class puppies!  We use only the best West German Show and Working bloodlines throughout the world.  Our females are proven to produce the highest attainable quality in temperament, structure, working ability and health.  Each breeding is carefully planned with the highest standard intended.  We want for others to benefit from the hard work & planning that we do for each and every litter.

We have chosen the West German bloodlines as the pillars for our breeding program simply because these are the bloodlines that have been the most consistent over the course of the breed history.  They are stable in temperament & nerve, and balanced in their working drives. We demand a lot from our dogs from physical, intellectual and emotional levels and have found that our preference and success in the the West German bloodlines have not ever disappointed us!  We do not discriminate against any particular bloodline, we just have our own preference.

All of our dogs must have obtained at least a ScHH working title (to guarantee a sound and stable temperament), a conformation rating to uphold the breed standard and a passing hip & elbow certificate prior to being bred.  This is part of our commitment with providing people with the best possible working partner, team member, service dog and family member.  Schutzhund is a breed suitability test that was developed in Germany to test and maintain the important working qualities in the German Shepherd Dog.

Many people claim that their dogs are working, show or service dogs, and our belief is to PROVE that fact with written, authentic documentation, which is readily available on all dogs.   Many people often claim to have *World Class* quality, when the breeding is only geared for mass production.....these people are good in the marketing aspect.  There is a difference from a knowledgeable  and experienced breeder, and those can do well with their advertising and smooth talking of this breed.

The working and show titles our dogs have achieved are real titles, and we have worked hard as a team to achieve those titles.   Always ask to see copies of score books, show ratings, and other information that a breeder claims a dog may have achieved.

Because we follow the German Standard and System, each puppy will be named per their alphabetical litter letter, followed by the 'Adel Haus' kennel prefix.  This practice is customary in Germany, and it is a very efficient way to keep track of our puppies based on their AKC registered name.  Many of our puppies have 'call names' which are very different from their AKC registered name.  We do encourage everyone to give their puppy a 'call name' which best suits the puppy and their new family!
What can Buyers expect from us as breeders?
We want to be there for the entire life of our puppies.  Because of experience and knowledge of the breed, we can always be counted on for advice in almost every situation.  We have built some very solid friendships with those who have our puppies and we are truly blessed to call these people our friends.

We have a very good relationship with our veterinarian team, and all of whom, we have known for many years.  Each puppy is taken in for a health check prior to placement, where they will be  checked and guaranteed healthy at the time of placement.  We also do fecal screens & floats to ensure that each puppy is free of internal parasites & pests.

Because we are with our puppies from the moment of birth until the day that they join their new families, we know our puppies very well.  Because of this, we will make suggestions to future families regarding which puppy will join their family.  We keep records of individual activity and personality, and because of our lengthy experience in training dogs of this Breed, we are able to make very accurate and informed suggestions.  We are dog trainers and want what is best for all people and puppies involved!

We place every dog with a hip & health contract that ensures the buyer that we do care about our puppies.  This includes a section of the contract stating that our puppies will never be turned over to a Rescue or 'Dog Pound' Organization.  This is a horrible situation for any dog or puppy to be dumped by the owners that they have grown to love.  We love our puppies and we want them back if any situation occurs where their owners are unable to keep them.

Are we the best breeders for everyone?  That answer is simple, No, we are not.  Not every family will be a suitable home for our puppies.  We encourage a lot of information regarding the potential home of our puppies to ensure a successful placement.  We have turned down many sales when we have thought that the situation would not be favorable for any individual puppy.  We will always remain firm in the fact that not every home is ideal for our puppies, and we do have the right of refusal on each of our puppies no matter how much money is offered by a prospective buyer.

We can be expected to answer questions ranging from simple to long, complicated questions.  We can be expected to be honest in all of our answers and if the answer is not known, we will give direction to the proper channels for a very supportive, informed answer.  If a medical question arises, our veterinarian team is always ready to give professional advice and answers.

We always welcome any phone calls or e-mails!!!
What do we expect from people who buy our puppies?

We expect those who adopt our puppies into their families to keep in touch with us, through the good or bad times, for the life of the puppy.  We are always wanting to know how our puppies are doing because we care!  We do expect to see some pictures and updates so that we can always keep tabs on the development and 'type' that each puppy is or has become.  We do this to monitor our breeding program and to ensure the future of the breed.  We never want to settle.  We are always trying to make sure that the puppies that are born with our family truly are the very best examples of the German Shepherd Dog.

Those who are buying a puppy as a family companion will receive Limited AKC Registration papers.  We do expect companion dogs to be spayed or neutered between the ages of 18 months and 2 years old.  We do not recommend early spaying/neutering because the puppy will not reach full gender development, therefore will look neither 'male or female'.  Gender difference is what makes each individual dog a true representative of the breed.  We are very proactive for spaying and neutering, however, these young dogs do need to develop into adults and they do need the help of their respective gender hormones.  New owners will have to be responsible through this time, but they will not regret this thoughtful decision in the future.

We will not recommend nor encourage people to thoughtlessly breed our puppies.  There is a lot of information to learn before anyone should breed their dog.  Bloodlines, trainability, health clearances and temperament are just a few things that must be clearly understood before anyone takes on the challenge of breeding.  We care very much for our breeding program and what happens to our puppies, and at times, careless breeding destroys every effort & measure we have taken to ensure the very best German Shepherd puppy possible!

We expect honesty from each person or family that has our puppy.  We expect the intentions for purchasing each puppy to be very clear.  We expect people to love our puppies for entire life of our puppy, but we can also be expected to always welcome our puppies home whenever necessary!

If there is ever a situation which requires new owners to relinquish their dog, we require that we receive first rights to get the dog back.  We never want our puppies in a shelter or rescue situation.  In the state of Colorado as well as many other states, there are breed specific rescues and 'open' rescues & shelters, however, these rescues and shelters will rarely contact the breeder of any dogs placed in their care.  Some rescues, contrary to defining a rescue, are also breeders, and keep too many dogs, including their collection of various dogs, and the care of the dogs is severely compromised.  What a disheartening situation for a dog to have to be placed in, and we would rather get our puppies back and help them to find a suitable, forever family home where they can be loved.

If possible, we encourage everyone to come to our kennel to meet us and our dogs!  We would be more than happy to give you a tour of our facilities and meet these wonderful dogs whom we share our lives.  We have truly been enriched by their presence and it will be very clear to everyone why and how we are different from every other breeder!

We do expect that all puppies have some type of training, whether it be very basic or geared for competition.  A trained dog is a very well loved and respected dog.  Training also builds and instills a forever bond with our puppies and really gives them a sense of direction from their families....and it is very FUN!
